Across Spain, from the south (Malaga) to the north (St-Jean de Luz, France). 1750km, 30.000m+ on 14 days. An incredible experience in a constantly changing scenery; forest, deserts, mountains, plains… The ideal way to discover the beauty of a country, totally out of the box!
A flight from Brussels brought me to the Malaga Airport where the bike needed to be re-assembled after having packed it in a cardboard box to transport it by plane. The first kilometers were along the popular Costa del Sol, and after climbing the Alcazaba de Malaga, the off-road adventure could start.
First it was the forest of the Montes de Malaga, then came the desert of Sierra de Loja, followed by the mountains of the Sierra Nevada. The high grey peaks of these mountains are in contrast with the yellow Meseta Sur plains or the blue water of the Rio Borosa canyons.
This trip shows a completely different side of Spain, where castles, cities and monuments remind of the tubulent history.
This 1750km route is a combination of hundreds of gpx-logs merged to one track that goes mainly off-road on large gravel paths, but sometimes you find yourself on a downhill track or along a river bed in a Natural Park.
Some areas are deserted and offer no possibilities for refilling water or food reserves. Luckily most of the bars have the delicious Spanish tapas.
As for hotels, every town has some of them but check the availability since they're often not open during the whole year.
